Vaccines: New Study Again Confirms MMR Safety

There has been a lot of controversy since 1999 regarding the MMR vaccine and an alleged link to autism. Fortunately, the best studies have shown no relation, and now again there is a new study to corroborate this. It’s a UK NHS study which found the same rate of autism among adults as in children. If the MMR vaccine were to cause autism, then the study would expect a higher rate among children, but this was not found.

“The findings do not support suggestions of a link between the MMR vaccine and the development of this condition.”

A Department of Health spokesperson said: “There is no credible evidence to support the link between the MMR vaccine and autism.

“MMR vaccine has been used extensively and safely around the world for over 30 years and is the best way of protecting your child against measles, mumps and rubella.”

  1. Thanks for this post. As a parent of an autistic child, this is comforting to know, as we had always wondered about the possibility that MMR was a factor. Such an authoritative study puts our minds to rest.

  2. good to know this~ my son is 12.5mo. Is it better to wait until 15mo or even 18mo to take MMR shot? I know that lots of patents delay this shot on purpose because many children have strong reaction (fever, hyper, sleepless, etc.) after taking MMR. thx~!

    1. Great question! No, I firmly believe that this trend for “spacing” vaccines has no credible scientific evidence, and I don’t advise waiting on any vaccines. In fact, there’s quite a lot of accumulating evidence that delaying vaccines causes disease, because of course those kids often get that disease while “waiting”. This whole notion of spacing has no credibility in the American Academy of Pediatrics! I just went to their annual convention in Boston, and we all were made very clear about this — continue the recommended schedule.
